Owls are nocturnal birds and hunt at night. An owl can turn its head almost completely, that is by 270 degrees. This allows it to hear sounds from almost all angles. Its hearing is very sensitive with its facial ruff enhancing the sound reaching its ears. The ears are also specialized as each ear receives different intensities of sound, which allows the owl to precisely determine incoming sound horizontally and vertically. Further the wings of the owl are designed in a special way to minimize the sound caused due to flapping of the wings. All these attributes allow the owl to hunt silently at night.
