Prof. Henrich Focke, a German inventor, devised the first practical helicopter called the Focke-Wulf Fw 16, which was successfully flown in 1936.  By 1938 it set many world records for altitude, speed and flight duration. It could be flown by a pilot after only one hour of pilot briefing.

The German physicist who discovered X-rays

Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen was a German physicist. In 1895 he was working with cathode rays when he discovered a different kind of electromagnetic radiation. Since the radiation was unknown at that time, he called it the X-rays. He received the first Nobel Prize in physics in 1901 for this discovery.

His warfare tactics earned him the name Desert Fox

Erwin Rommel was a German Field Marshal in World War II. He was a highly decorated officer of World War I. His troops were known to treat the war prisoners humanely and never accused of war crimes. He was highly skilled in the art of desert warfare, which earned him the name Desert Fox. Hitler forced him to commit suicide by taking a cyanide pill.
