Satyajit Ray’s directorial brainwave
The film Bicycle Thieves (Ladri di biciclette) is a heart-warming tale of the father and son who search all through the city of Rome for the stolen bicycle which is the only means to ensure their livelihood. Ray started his career as a commercial artist and he got inspired into independent film making after meeting French film-maker Jean Renoir and viewing the Italian neorealist 1948 film Bicycle Thieves. Vittorio De Sica’s famous movie Bicycle Thieves inspired Indian film maestro Satyajit Ray to become a director.
