A powerful winning goal triggered mass upheaval of the Indians against the British

On 29 July 1911, the ground was hard and dry. A very pacy game commenced. The barefooted players of the Mohun Bagan Club matched their British counterparts in every aspect of the game. It was the 87th  minute. Abhilash Ghosh received a pass from the captain, and his powerful shot went straight into the goal! This win was seen as a significant event at a time when Bengal was just partitioned by the British into East Bengal and West Bengal, and the Capital was shifted from Kolkata to Delhi. It marked a mass upheaval of the Indian natives against the British regime as Mohun Bagan Club lifted the IFA Shield as the first Indian Team playing barefoot against East Yorkshire Regiment.
