Population explosion in Asia
Asia, the largest continent on Earth, has a total land area of 44,579,000 square kilometers. It constitutes 30 per cent of the total available land area. The continent tops the list even in terms of population. More than 4.1 billion people reside in Asia, which is 60 per cent of the entire global population, with a population density of 87 persons per square kilometer.
There are currently 7.2 billion people in the world today. The Asian countries China and India have the highest population – 1.3 billion and 1.2 billion respectively. Indonesia comes fourth on the list; Pakistan holds the 6th position, followed by Bangladesh, Russia, and Japan at the eighth, ninth, and tenth positions respectively. The population of Asia continues to grow at a rate of 2 per cent every year.
