The human body resists 1 ton of atmospheric pressure

The atmosphere surrounding us is made of air. The air molecules have weight and therefore exert pressure on us. This pressure is called atmospheric pressure. The atmospheric pressure has been estimated to be about 1 kg per square cm. This means the pressure on 1000 square cm (about a square foot) is a ton. Our bodies are able to resist this enormous atmospheric pressure because the air pressure inside our bodies is naturally balanced to the external pressure.
