How many glasses of milk does a cow give in its lifetime?

A cow gives nearly 2,00,000 glasses of milk in its lifetime. An average cow of a good breed produces about 13 to 15 litres of milk per day, which amounts to about 90 glasses (of 150 ml capacity) of milk per day or 16,000 glasses of milk per year. A cow on an average produces milk for about 12 years.

  1. Dairy cows are milked from age 2 and slaughtered for low-grade beef around age 6. (Not much of a retirement package for services rendered, but that’s humanity for you.) I doubt very many see 12 years old as stated; cows rescued to a farm sanctuary might live to be 20; cows in India might live 30 years.

As high milk consuming countries actually show higher incidences of bone fracture, the benefits of cow’s milk is dubious; animal protein is observed to make the blood acidic, which may lead to calcium loss.
