Verkhoyansk, a Siberian town in Sakha Republic, Russia, is one of the coldest inhabited places on earth. This town holds the Guinness World Record of having the highest temperature range in the world.
Temperatures in peak winter season are as low as –45 degrees Celsius. In summers, the average temperature is around 16 degrees Celsius. The average temperature difference between seasons is around 60 degrees Celsius. However, on 25th July, 1988, the town recorded a temperature of 37.3 degrees Celsius. The temperature difference shot up to 105 degree Celsius, thus earning an entry into the Guinness Book.
Verkhoyansk has also been battling it out with Oymyakon (Russia) for the position of the coldest inhabited place on earth.
