A dimple is a small indentation on the cheek that appears when a person smiles. It is a kind of facial muscle deformity. It is caused when a particular facial muscle called the zygomaticus major is shorter than normal and pulls down the overlying skin when stretched. A chin dimple is a small line on the chin that remains even without a facial expression.
